Across Five Aprils

Q: First off can you state your name and what you do in the band?
A: Brandon Mullins vocals.. And Matty J merch piggy

Q: Where does the name Across Five Aprils come from?
A: It comes from an old civil war book we liked the southern traditions and
 adapted the name.

Q: How did you get signed to Indianola?
A: When Indianola was first getting started they wanted a poster child
 band...
They approached us and Evergreen Terrace.. The rest is history haha.

Q: You have a new cd coming out in July. How was the recording process?
A: the process was awesome. We got put up in Valdosta Ga to record with Lee
Dyce of Earthsound recordings (from first to last, kids like us) and we
basically got drunk every night and wrote some super catch tunes...
It was pretty cool cause we got a month to take our time and hang out with
Kee and Indianola and get it right.

Q: Do you have any particular methods for writing new material?
A: Well with us all being spread out all over the south its hard to get
together for a traditional practice. So when one of us comes up with a cool
riff or lick or lead .we record it ghetto style and forward it around so
that everyone can tweak it and give it a listen. And we did a lot of the
writing for this record in the studio...I mean ..we had a month

Q: The name of the new cd is Collapse. Can you explain the meaning
 of that?

A: We wanted a 1 word title that played on the "breathing" element to this
 record...
On songs like Tallahassee is for Hookers and Lets Whisper... There's a
breathing track mixed into the song that give it an erie feeling.. The
record actualy starts off with 10 seconds of just heavy breathing...and a
lot of the later songs on the record have super "airy" vocals. It just made
sense to us that after all that breathing heavy.. We would collapse haha

Q: How do you think the band has grown since your last release
 Living in the Moment?

A: Well we've def started writing a lot darker lyrics. This record although
very catchy.. It's a lot heavier than any other Across Five Aprils release to
date...I think some of it has to do with the content... Before this
record i thought a lot of the songs had ambiguous, almost cheesy plots to
 them...
Collapse hits some adult topics that I'm hoping will distance us from the
kinda high school mentality i feel we mayhave picked up
somewhere haha, and def try to distance us from people thinking were a
Christian band.  People picked that up somewhere haha

Q: Why was A Tragedy in Progress re-released?
A: There's a few reasons really. It helped Indianola with a distro dilemma
they were going to have with our new record...also.. They had just about
ran out of the old pressings.. So they thought a new layout and re release
would draw more attention to the fact that were getting a lot of attention
and more tours and help out with promoting us and the new record.

A: What can someone who has never seen you live expect at one of your
 shows?

A: They can expect to see boobs.. Haha or at lease see us be idiots trying
 to see them haha..
Aside from that.. they will se us give 100%.. Unlike a lot of bands out
there.. We don't half ass anything.. That's just not how we were raised...

Q: If you could play a show with any three artists, past or present, who
 would they be?

A: Ohhh great question.. Well I can't count Poison the Well any more cause
we just played with then in Chattanooga tonight.. let me see
 Earth crisis...
 Journey
 Jimmy eat world
 The hope conspiracy

Q: You just finished up a tour. How was that?
A: You know i could go the politically correct rout and say it went super
well... But i was raised to speak my mind so ima let you have it..
It was pretty screwed...and for a few different reasons.. First of all..
Ash from ee booking (who is not our agent.. he was contracted through our
agent thunderdome) dropped the ball.. Bad.. and trust me this isn't the
first bad thing you will hear about ash..
Originally the tour was supposed to be...
Fight Paris/ Across Five Aprils/ Chasing Vic/ Flee the Seen/ Perfect Kiss..
Then half way into it.. Ligea was supposed to hop on..
Well Fight Paris dropped off cause their singer went to jail (or so i
heard) then (and i looovveee Chasing Vic but they hurt us here) Chasing
Victory dropped off the tour...I heard a few different reasons why.. But
nothing solid.. Point is.. If they would have wanted to they could have
stayed.. So all of the sudden its another Across Five Aprils headlining
tour.. And that's not what we signed up for.. But because were bad asses we
finished the tour.. And kids just didn't come out.. They thought the tour
was canceled...so we lost a lot of money...

Q: How is the new material being received live?
A: Really well.. I love it...i have kids singing along and we haven't even
released the record yet.. How that happens I'm not sure but I'm not
complaining...tonight i was helping Matty sell merch.. and i tried to get
this girl to buy a record...and she said she would have but neither one of
the old records had her favorite song on it.. "Tallahassee's for Hookers"
haha its on the new record.. But i guess she didn't know that

Q: Who are some of your biggest influences?
A: Mine personally? Tuff one.. As far as music goes.. Journey.. the bled.. sam
cook...kids like us...circa survive.. The hope conspiracy

Q: Do you have any pre show rituals?
A: the pre show dump is super important...
Also to warm up the vocals.. and stretch out

Q: Who has been your favorite band to share the stage with so far?
A: we play with so many amazing bands.. Its hard to pick one..i think i
would have to say.. secret lives of the freemasons.. Just cause we broed out
 so hard in Canada.

Q: What is the scene like in Tennessee?

A: depends who you are and where in tn. haha Chattanooga is always a great
time.. Can't get enough.. kids just everywhere...Johnson City is awesome
 to...Memphis, Nashville... We <3 tenn

Q: When you aren't on tour, what do you do for fun?
A: for fun i like to hang out with my hot girlfriend and my dog maggie
may..eat and bro out with my good friends..

Q: Who did the artwork for Collapse?
A: a guy named Caleb for bootcore graphics.. He does a lot of indianola
stuff he's a great guy..he realy hit this one on the head..

Q: You have a video trailer for the song Lets Whisper. Who did you
work with on that video and when will it be out?

A: our buddy andy reale (www.andyreale.com) did the video.. He does a lot
of video stuff for facedown and some other people.. The video was so much
fun.. We basically just took over this little club in Valdosta Ga for 2 days
and did whatever we wanted...the video vixen is this super hot chick from
Jacksonville who I've known for a long time and i knew she would be
perfect.. so i basicly told her to run around in her underwear and show off
 her boobs
And she did a great job! It should be out real soon.. Were going to debut
it on ap and havoc tv i believe.

Q: Thanks for doing this. Do you have any last words for the readers?
A: no problem man... Go check out ceerius clothing
 Last words...yes..
Remember to always smell your food first... If it doesn't smell good its not
 going to taste good.
