Evergreen Terrace - Almost Home (Metal Blade)
Its hard to believe that Jacksonville, Florida's Evergreen Terrace have been
pounding out their brand of melodic hardcore now for 10 years. Following up
what most people felt was an underwhelming effort with 2007's Wolfbiker (we
here at Tripod of Thought are in the minority and feel Wolfbiker was
fantastic) is Evergreen's fifth full length Almost Home. While most bands in
the genre are treading water and putting out the same album every year,
Evergreen Terrace have seemed to always outdo themselves and have stepped up
their game with Almost Home. The musicianship is tighter than ever. Craig
Chaney's melodic and catchy clean singing compliments Andrew Carey's harsh
punishing screams better than ever, and Craig and fellow guitarist Josh
James guitar work shines on this album from the breakdowns (God Rocky, Is
This Your Face? will bring on some fights at shows) to the few solos that
were introduced and fit nicely with their sound (Almost Home (III), Sending
Signals). You would have to be in a coma for the past ten years to not know
that Evergreen Terrace have been mainstays in the hardcore scene and have
consistently put out solid records. The band never disappoints and almost
home is no exception to that. Give this a spin, their mixture of fierce
hardcore and catchy choruses will have you spinning this on repeat for quite
some time.
