I happened upon Braindrill about a year ago after
listening to their first EP and fell in love. There really hasn't been a
whole lot of "good" technical death metal to come out recently, so I am
always skeptical with any new death metal band. Thinking that they all are
either going to be the typical run of the mill brutal band, or they are
going to try and incorporate something so called "unique" into the blend and
just come across cheap and disorganized. But, that has no bearing on
Braindrill whatsoever.
The first EP they put out was phenomenal, but as always, just a couple of
great songs just leaves you wanting more, and finally we get that. After
signing to Metal Blade, they wasted absolutely no time entering the studio
to begin the writing and recording of their full length masterpiece. This
album is the picture perfect, wet dream for any fan of Brutal, Intense
music. Although it seemed to me, very hard to improve on the EP, they have
certainly done it here. This release is more technical, more diverse, more
professional and even faster than anything they have previously put out.
Dylan Ruskin is an absolute 6-string phenomena, ripping apart every riff,
every chord with sheer brilliance. This metal god's fingers must bleed
every time he gets up on stage to perform. Not that often do a band's bass
player stand out, especially in the death metal genre, but Jeff Hughell is
excellent at shredding his 7-string (yes!! he plays a ridiculous 7 string
bass). And how can you go wrong on the drums with Lord Marco Pitruzzella
(Vital Remains) blasting away from here to eternity. Though there are no
beautiful or melodic parts to wind down with, the fanatic, crazy riffs make
it catchy enough to be able to listen to this album over and over again.
Listening to "Forcefed Human Shit" redone is a dream come true, as much as
having a full length buy these master musicians.
They have seriously stepped up and set the bar for anything brutal in this
industry to try and come out. Right now, no one can touch them, this is the
pure essence that death metal has been trying to recapture since the early
'90's. I know it is early in the year, but so far this is the best album in
the genre to come out, and I can not imagine any other band rising up to
this level of intensity. Apocalyptic Feasting is a Disgusting, Ferocious
Death Metal Masterpiece.
