Bury Your Dead - Bury Your Dead (Victory)
In what seems to be like 10 years and 10 vocalists ago, Bury Your Dead are
back with their follow up to the lackluster Beauty and the Breakdown with
their self titled and 4th full length album. After the departure of Mat
Bruso following the release of Beauty and the Breakdown, Bury Your Dead
recruited Michael Crafter (formerly of I Killed The Prom Queen) to handle
the vocal duties only to leave the band after a few months. They landed
Cassius front man Myke Terry to be the permanent vocalist and let me tell
you, he does a fine job on this album. When I first listened to the album I
heard a lot of resemblance between Terry and Bruso’s vocals but the more you
listen to it the more they separate. For this album Bury Your Dead slowed it
down a little bit but didn’t lose the tough guy hardcore sound at all.
Albeit this album isn’t as punishing as Cover Your Tracks (nor have the
sweet Tom Cruise inspired names) but the musicianship has increased tenfold.
For those of you who are turning away from this album before listening to it
because it isn’t as fast, listen to the track Disposably Yours and then tell
me this band isn’t what it used to be. That track screams everything this
band is about and is one catchy track. Do yourself a favor and give the new
lineup a chance and check out Bury Your Dead. For everything they have been
through in the last two years they have persevered and put out a solid
album.
