Interview with Sean Murphy, vocalist for Endwell

First off can you state your name and what you do in the band?
Hey what's goin on? My name is Sean and I sing for ENDWELL.

You released Punishment last week. How has the reaction been so far?
So far its been overwhelmingly positive. We feel as though its our strongest record and I think the fans share that vibe. We've been seeing a lot of kids hitting us up on twitter and facebook so hopefully it translates to more kids at our shows.

Your albums seem to be getting progressively heavier over the years.  Is it a natural progression for the band, and what is the writing process like?
I'd say the progression is very natural. We all came from playing in super heavy bands when we were little kids. Dannys old band would cover E-Town and Bulldoze, my old band would cover Dying Fetus and Crowbar so the heavy has always been there. We just get tired of writing the same sounding songs so we go off and write whatever we feel like writing. We have plenty of more melodic and mellow stuff in the bank but the heavier stuff is what we like bringing to the table.

The writing process is really smooth for the most part. Danny or Matt or myself will come in with a riff and we jam songs out a few different ways until we find something we like and it grows from there.

You have quite a few guest vocalists on the album.  How did that come about?
Well all of the guest vocalists are friends of ours and I felt as though they fit the part one way or another. Its a good vibe too. I like hearing band members doing guest spots on other records. Its a cool thing and we feel that hardcore or Metal or whatever you call it should be a family.

Any plans for a music video?
Yea we are planning to do a video real soon but we haven't decided on a song yet. We want to see how the new songs are going over live and then well get it done pretty quickly. Id say early summer it'll be out.

Your about to hit the road with Shai Halud.  How stoked are you to tour with those guys again?
Shai are great. Were actually on the 3rd day of tour with them and LionsLions about to play Breastfest in NC today. I think Foundation is meeting up w/ the tour today, they just put out a really sick new album. Were stoked on that. Shai are amazing dudes and have been an inspiration to us for quite some time. Were also hitting Canada with them and Naysayer which should be great. Haven't been up there in about 3 years.

How did you get involved with the first Bringin It Back For The Kids Fest?
Honestly I don't know. I guess we were submitted. Its really cool though some of my favorite bands are playing and its supposedly gonna be wild. We played Sig Fest like 2 years ago so maybe that helped. I really don't know just very glad that were on it. Can't wait for it.

Any bands you're excited to be playing with at the fest?
The day were playing I'm basically looking forward to everyone haha. We go on right before the Terror, Trapped Under Ice, Your Demise package love all those bands also Mean Petes new band Ether I've been wanting to check out for a while. I think Evergreen Terrace is playing that day too which will rule.

Do you have any touring plans lined up after your 2 week Canadian run this summer?
We leave July 8th to head out west with This Is Hell and were gonna be chilling in Cali for about 10 days while they record their new record then we head back with TIH and one other band hittin most states over 3 weeks or so....the rest is up in the air still.

How did you hook up with Mediaskare?
We met Baron years ago when we were recording our first album and heard great things from As Blood Runs Black so when we became free agents I started talking to Baron and we fell in love.

How was your European tour with Deez Nuts earlier this year?
Deez Nuts are some of our best friends on the planet and we actually jumped on that tour 2 weeks before it started. The tour was amazing it was our 2nd time in Europe with DN. A nonstop party and amazing shows. We also got to meet The Amity Affliction which are some more of the best people on the planet. It was a blessing considering we got thrown on the tour last minute it was one of the most fun we've ever had in this band.

If you could play a show with any 3 bands, past or present, who would they be?
3 bands??? That's hard. I'm gonna give you two different sets. 1) Pantera, Darkthrone, Poison The Well 2) The Beatles, Elliott Smith, Type O Negative.

That's all.  Thanks for taking some time to talk with us.  Any last words for the fans and readers?
